Employment indicators provide an early indication of changes in the labour market.
Key facts
Changes in the seasonally adjusted filled jobs for the August 2026 month (compared with the July 2026 month) were:
- all industries – up 0.2 percent (5,391 jobs) to 2.36 million filled jobs
- primary industries – up 0.5 percent (555 jobs)
- goods-producing industries – up 0.5 percent (2,008 jobs)
- service industries – up 0.2 percent (2,734 jobs).
In August 2026, there were 2.34 million actual filled jobs, up 20,800 jobs (0.9 percent), compared with August 2025.
